CHRISTIANS ARE NOT ONLY VICTIMS OF BOKO HARAM, BUT OF SYSTEMATIC VICTIMIZATION BY THE GOVERNMENT.
We write this piece largely in response to the claim by President Buhari, MURIC, the NSCIA, and Mr. Femi Adesina that 90% of victims of Boko Haram are Muslims.
The banditry in the north-western states of Katsina, Zamfara, and Kebbi is a pure, ongoing genocide against indigenous Hausa and ethnic minority populations by armed Fulani bandits/terrorists. It is a genocide to wipe out the indigenous Hausa and other ethnic minority populations made up of Muslims, Christians, and animists. Unknown to many, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Adamawa, Borno, and indeed, the entire northern states have quite a significant population of indigenous Christians, a fact to which Governor Masari of Katsina recently attested.
Adamawa and Taraba states each has well over 70% of their population as Christians while Kaduna has about 45-50%, Niger State 55% Christians, Yobe 25%, Kebbi 30%, Plateau 80%, Benue 90%, Nasarawa 60-65%, Kano 20%, Katsina 20%, and Sokoto 5-10% %, Zamfara 10-15%, Jigawa 10-15%, Kaduna 45-50%
In Bauchi state with about 35% Christian population, several local government areas are predominantly occupied by indigenous Christian communities especially in Tafawa Balewa, Bogoro, Alkaleri,Toro, Dass, Warji and Bauchi local government areas.
Similarly in Gombe with 55% indigenous Christian population, Billiri, Shongom, Kaltungo, Balanga, Y/Deba, Kwami, and Akko local government areas are predominantly indigenous Christian communities. In Borno, the epicenter of Boko Haram attacks, 40-45% of the population are Christians, especially in the southern Borno areas of Chibok, Gwoza, Askira Uba, Damboa, and Biu.
BH has consistently targeted the Christian community in southern Borno and northern Adamawa up till today with increasing ferocity and frequency.
On Feb 18th, 2006, fifty-six churches as well as shops belonging to Igbos and Christians were burnt down. More than 200 Christians were killed on that fateful day, including a woman who lost all her eight children in the attack.
Even though the Borno State governor at that time was aware of the situation on the day these dastardly acts were being carried out, he was busy going around Maiduguri, failing to alert or order the security agents to stop the carnage. The government, in attempting to win public sympathy, promised to rebuild and pay compensation for every damaged property; however, these promises are yet to be honoured. After this horrendous incident, the Monday market in Maiduguri, where over 85 percent are Muslim-owned shops caught fire. The same governor who had reneged on his promises to the Christians quickly paid millions of naira to his Muslim brothers who were victims of the market inferno.
There is a deliberate policy by the northern Muslim elites (politicians, government officials, military, Emirs and Muslim clergymen) to persecute Christians and wipe out Christianity in the North. What is happening is an organized, supervised program to silence and displace Christians and ethnic minorities from their lands, with the active connivance of the Buhari administration and northern elites.
This is all about territorial control and gaining access to the abundant natural resources of the indigenes of those communities. It is all about changing the political, demographic, and economic dynamics of the region in order to enforce a Fulani and Muslim ethnic agenda. It is about primitive conquest and domination of the indigenes of those communities. The Muslim Fulani are simply trying to change the demography of the land to their advantage, just as with the recent policy of granting visas on arrival to West Africans suspected to be Fulanis from neighboring African countries.
These allegations might seem alarmist to some but, in reality, have been internationally acknowledged, both in television broadcasts (for example, by the Christian Broadcasting Network) and in print. No less a scientist than the French public intellectual and philosopher, Bernard-Henri Lévy, published an article in the Wall Street Journal of December 20, 2019, titled: “The New War Against Africa’s Christians”. In it he stated:
“A slow-motion war is underway in Africa’s most populous country. It’s a massacre of Christians, massive in scale and horrific in brutality. And the world has hardly noticed.”
Generals Danjuma, Obasanjo, and recently Governor Ifeanyi Okowa have alleged that the Nigerian military is being used by the Buhari administration to kill, maim and destroy ethnic minorities in the North and in the South. Retired General Danjuma said, “The peace in Taraba state is under assault. There is an attempt at ethnic cleansing in this state and, of course, in all the riverine states of Nigeria. We must resist it. We must stop it. Every one of us must rise up. The armed forces are not neutral; they collude with the armed bandits that kill people, kill Nigerians. They facilitate their movement. They cover them. If you are depending on the Armed Forces to stop the killings, you will all die one by one.” General Danjuma, who was Nigeria’s Minister of Defence from 1999 to 2003, warned that Nigeria risks suffering a fate such as that of Somalia if the killings are not checked. “The ethnic cleansing must stop in Taraba State, it must stop in all the states of Nigeria; otherwise Somalia will be a child’s play,” General Danjuma said. To avoid such a situation, he called on Nigerians to rise up and defend their territories, state, and country, telling them, “You have nowhere else to go.”
Similarly, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, while delivering a keynote address titled, ‘Mobilizing Nigeria’s Human and Natural Resources for National Development and Stability’ on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the second session of the seventh Synod of the Anglican Communion, Oleh Diocese, in the Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, stated that the deadly activities of Boko Haram and herdsmen in the country were “no longer an issue of a lack of education and employment for our youths in Nigeria which it began as; it is now West African Finalization, African Islamisation and global organized crimes of human trafficking, money laundering, drug trafficking, gun trafficking, illegal mining and regime change.”
In a similar fashion, on Thursday, February 13, 2020, Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa while commenting on the renewed attacks by suspected herdsmen in Avwon, Agadama, Ohoror, and other communities of Uwheru Kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state said, “The unwarranted attacks and killing of innocent locals in Avwon, Agadama and Ohoror communities of the Uwheru Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area and the wickedness of suspected herdsmen alleged to be aided by unidentified military personnel are mindless.”
On the 6th of January, 2020, 14 Gbagi communities in Kaduna State were sacked with 36 persons killed and 58 abducted, all of them Christians. From the month of January to February this year, over 80 people have been kidnapped and 173 people killed across Kaduna State alone. Sadly, this has been a reoccurring decimal over the years in Borno, Adamawa, Plateau, Taraba, Nasarawa, Niger, and the Kogi States. This systematic, deliberate, cynical genocide and persecution of Northern Christians represent multipronged attacks on the economic opportunities, education, political office access, cultural values, and survival of the indigenous Northern Christians.
Systematic Discrimination
1. Christians are denied employment, political appointments and top civil service positions. Buhari and northern governors should be asked how many indigenous Christians are permanent secretaries, governors or directors. For instance, in the FCT which should conspicuously display our diversity, unity and oneness, the exact opposite prevails. The FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammadu Musa Bello, has been discriminating against Christians in the FCT administration since he became the head.
For instance, in the FCDA, the following positions are all occupied by Muslims:
1. Executive Secretary, Umar Gambo Jibrin
2. Head of Administration and Supply, Alhaji Suleiman
3. Director, Abuja Environmental Protection Board, Baba Shehu
4. Director, Engineering Services, Shehu Ahmad
5. Director, Engineering Design and Evaluation, MB Idris
6. Urban and Regional Planning Director, Alhaji Huseini Loko
7. Director, Survey and Mapping, Bashiru Mahmood
8. Resettlement and Compensation Director, Babakura Umar
The following are Christians:
1. Director, Mass Housing, Emmanuel Olu
2. Director, Procurement, G Z Nuhu
3. Director, Public Buildings, Anthony
That is, out of the eleven Directors in the FCDA, only three are Christians. Muslims constitute 72% of the Directorate Cadre.
In AMMC, another parastatal of the FCT, 75% of the top cadre of executive positions are Muslims (nos. 1-7 below), while only the last two persons listed are Christians:

2. Director, Administration, and Supply, Alhaji Suleiman
3. Director, Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima
4. Director, Parks, and Recreation, Arc Ali Ukele
5. Director General, Barrister Isa

8. Director, Fire Service, Mr. Julius
9. Acting Director Facility Maintenance and Management, Engr. Omoniyi
In August 2016, FCT Minister, Mallam Bello, appointed Acting Directors, among whom only two were Christians. In November 2017, the Minister confirmed all the Acting Directors, with the exception of the only two Christians, namely, Mrs. Olanipekun and Engr Omoniyi. He further went on to remove Mrs. Olanipekun, demoting her to the position of Deputy Director, and replaced her with Baba Shehu, a Muslim, who had earlier been removed by the same Minister on account of corruption. Till today, the only Christian Acting Director has not yet been confirmed.
Again, a Christian and confirmed Director, Mr. Ologun, was in August 2016 removed from office in the Parks and Recreation Department and replaced with his then Deputy Director, Ali Ukele, a Muslim, who was confirmed in 2017. Up till today, Mr Ologun, a confirmed Director has not been posted to any department but has been left without any office even though he has no query or any allegation against him.
All the Directors responsible for land use design, survey, geographic information and land allocation are all Muslims. In the Office of the Minister, the S.A Administration Mallam Zayyanu, the PA Abu Zarr Ribadu, the Chief of Staff Bashir Mai-Borno and his Secretary, ADC, and other police attachés are all Muslims.
Just recently, there are insinuations that Buhari’s Govt is blocking a Christian Judge from taking over the Appeal Court President, as Justice Bulkachuwa’s tenure ends.
Indication has emerged that Buhari’s Govt may oust
the most senior judge in the Appeal Court, Justice Monica
Dongban Mensem who is a Christian.
The Govt is alleged to have favoured the appointment of Justice
Mohammed Garba as the next President of the Appeal Court.
There were attempts to push Justice Dongban-Mensem to the
Supreme Court and scheming her out of contention to be
President Court of Appeal (PCA).
Justice Bukachuwa, being at the heart of the plans is doing
her best to skip Justice Mensem in nominating a name to
NJC. Note, while recusing herself from the Presidential Appeal
panel rather than nominate the Justice next in rank (who is a
female and a Christian) she skipped the number two person
and brought Justice Mohammed Garba.
For 41 years, no Christian has been PCA. Since the late Hon
Justice Daniel Onuorah Ibekwe (PCA 1976-1978), it has been
Muslims from North-east and North-west heading the
appellate court.
President Buhari, despite his claims to being a poor person, has several companies run by his family, especially Maman Daura. The Kaduna Furniture and Carpets Company (the largest in West Africa when it was built), Kaduna Machine Works, Worldwide Garments, and Kaduna Aluminum owned by the Buhari family has hundreds of staff, only very few among whom are Christians, and most of whom are casual workers. There are some other now moribund textiles companies in the North in which the family has substantial shares.
Kidnappings and Abductions
Another area of concern is the fact that it has now become a norm in northern Nigeria for Muslims to freely abduct Christian girls who have not reached the age of maturity. The usual practice is that they take them to Sharia Courts and forcefully marry them out to Muslims without the consent of their parents. Whenever the parents of these vulnerable girls protest, the Sharia Courts disregard them with impunity.
One such instance happened in Alkaleri Local Government of Bauchi State where a girl, Maryam Lakodong, was abducted by Alh. Magaji Gobirawa. The Sharia Court presided over by an Area Court Judge, Alkali Musa Mohammed Ginsa, joined Maryam and Gobirawa as husband and wife without the consent of her parents. The parents challenged the Sharia court’s decision at the Appeal Court in Jos, Plateau State, and judgment was passed on Wednesday, 9th November 2016. The Hon. Justice Joseph Tur ordered the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Attorney General, and Commissioner of Justice to return Maryam to her parents, but nothing has been done to date.
A similar incident occurred in Katsina State, home of President Buhari, in November 2016 where a fourteen-year-old girl, Habiba Ishaku, was abducted, converted, and forced into marriage with one Jamilu Tukur. Surprisingly, the illegal and unlawful marriage was facilitated and sponsored by the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, stamped and approved by the Katsina Emirate Council, despite the outcry and complaint lodged by the parents of the girl to the appropriate authorities; all to no avail.
Another similar incident happened in Niger State to two families (1) the family of Pastor Uzoechina whose daughter Christy was abducted to the Palace of the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, and (2) the family of Mr. Habila Gambo in Erana district of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State on the 16th March 2017, where the Sharia Court forcefully joined their daughter, Janet, and Nasiru as husband and wife, without her parents’ consent. It is obvious today that Nigerian Muslims through the instrumentality of the Sharia Court is forcefully Islamizing Christian ladies. This must stop.
It is a notorious fact and within the public domain that Dapchi schoolgirls were abducted by the Boko Haram on February 18, 2018, and upon the payment of a huge sum of money (unspecified, as reported by the “Vanguard” newspaper of Friday, August 17, 2018) they were released on the 2lst of March 2018, with the exception of the only Christian girl, Leah Sharibu. The other girls reported that Leah was retained because she refused to deny her faith. It gives us great concern that despite the countless promises of the Federal Government of Nigeria that Leah Sharibu would be released, up till now nothing has been done, in spite of the assurances given by the former Governor of Yobe State, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, that negotiations were going on regarding Leah’s release. We are tired of waiting. How long will we be held in suspense? We want to know now the true situation of Leah Sharibu.
Other instances of victimization
1. Whenever an opportunity exists for Christians to assume top positions, they are bypassed and a much more junior Muslim is given the opportunity. Such was the case in Borno State where the Chief Justice, a Muslim, retired, and the next two senior Justices in line who were Christians were bypassed. The 7th person in terms of seniority, a Northern Muslim, was chosen. All 7 individuals were indigenes of Borno STATE. A similar thing has happened in Kebbi and recently Gombe State where the position of the Chief Justice was denied the rightful persons simply because they are Christians.
2. Authorities are denying Christians land to build churches. In fact, a community in Adamawa state out of frustration wrote a passionate letter to President Buhari asking for land even in Sambisa forest.
3. In Arewa House, which is supposed to be the headquarters of Northerners, irrespective of tribe and religion, there were five mosques and no single church a few years back.
4. The issue of religious studies in government primary schools in the core Northern states is another orchestrated persecution and marginalization of Christian pupils. Government schools in the core North teach Islamic studies, but you cannot find a government school where Christian religious studies are taught.
Percentage of Muslim and Christian Victims of Terror Attacks
Recently, President Buhari, the Sultan and Mr. Femi Adesina came up with a fraudulent claim that 90 percent of the victims of deaths from Islamic terrorist groups were Muslims – as if that would assuage those Christians who were victims of religion-motivated crimes.
The questions Buhari and his ilk should answer are numerous and they include:
1. Out of thousands of Nigerians abducted by Boko Haram, what percentage of those released were Christians? We are aware that virtually all of the Dapchi girls that were kidnapped and released were Muslims. Only Leah Sharibu, a Christian, was not released.
2. What are the percentages of churches and mosques destroyed by BH? And what percentages of those religious worship centers belonging to Christians were rehabilitated after being destroyed by insurgents?
3. What are the percentages of Christians and Muslims internally displaced in IDP camps or those whose communities have been burnt down and now occupied by Fulani herdsmen terrorists?
4. What are the percentages of people beheaded, whether Christians or Muslims and which were displayed openly (by video) by Islamic terrorists?
5. What are the percentages of Christian and Muslim victims who received compensation from the government?
6. What are the percentages of predominantly Christian communities affected in Borno and the Middle Belt, as compared to predominantly Muslim communities?
7. What are the percentages of Christians and non-Muslims among the bandits in the North-West, Boko Haram and Fulani Herdsmen terrorists?
8. What are the percentages of Christians and Muslims buried in mass graves in Benue, Plateau, and Kaduna states as a result of terrorism by Muslims?
We are eagerly waiting for answers.
President Buhari claimed that 90 percent of victims of Islamic terrorists in Nigeria are Muslims, and several Muslims including the Sultan of Sokoto, MURIC, and Northern elites sing the same fallacious song. What a terrible lie! From available statistics in the last 30 days alone, there were recorded 21 different attacks by Islamist groups; only one involved a mosque where rival gangs of Boko Haram attacked their different mosques. The remaining 20, accounting for 120 deaths out of 123, were either Christian clergymen, Christian communities in Plateau, Kaduna, and elsewhere or military bases killing Nigerian servicemen. 120 out of 123 is 97.5 percent. Only 2.5 percent were Muslims and that was collateral damage from rival Muslim gangs’ warfare. Some statistics:

Here are the statistics for Buhari, the Sultan, and Femi Adesina. This is just the gory statistics from just one Church Denomination in the North. All other Christian denominations are affected.
The Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (Hausa: Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN) has suffered greatly from targeted attacks by Boko Haram. In 2014, more than 120,000 members were displaced across Nigeria; at the moment, EYN Church has over 4,000 Children at the International Christian Center Camp in Benin City with 56 households and 38 widows.18,000 EYN members are refugees in Minawaw Camp in Cameron. 2,500 Churches were burnt down completely, over 15,000 members and pastors were killed since 2014 to date. Many houses and communities were burnt down, but most of them have gone back, except Bayan Dutse Area (Ngoshe and others).
The killings, burning of communities and churches is still going on; the recent one is the brutal beheading of Rev. Lawan Andimi, Michika CAN Chairman of EYN LEHO in DCC Askira, Michika, Adamawa state.
It is interesting to note that, when Chief Olusegun Obasanjo became President of Nigeria in 1999, he appointed General T. Y. Danjuma as Minister of Defence, late Major General Victor Malu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice-Marshal J.D Wuycp, Rear Admiral Samuel Alblayao, and many others at that time. The then Governor of Zamfara State, Sanni Yarima Bakura, told the world that Muslims do not have senior officers in the Nigerian Army. According to Sanni Ahmed Yarima Bakura, General T. Y. Danjuma, late Gen. Victor Malu and the rest are not core Northerners. The implication of his statement is that even though these above-mentioned generals were Northerners, but since they are Christians, he didn’t consider them as Northerners.
In the same vein, it is claimed that Sanni Yarima and his colleagues raised the sum of N100,000,000 (One Hundred Million Naira) to strengthen Islamic groups in the country to serve as political thugs during the 2003 general elections. The ultimate agenda was to ensure that Muslims fight Christians to achieve their political agenda. Sani Ahmed Yarima Bakura, while receiving Sheikh Mahmud Salga, the National Chairman of Fitiyau Islam, and other delegates in his office during a courtesy call on July 16, 2001, used that visit as an opportunity to promote his Islamic interest and fanaticism. Consequently, he incited and brainwashed his visitors (Islamic leaders), claiming that Christian leaders met in Enugu where they agreed that Christian Governors should be installed in all states that have a Christian majority, while in states with a majority of Muslims, liberal Muslims would be selected and supported by the Christians.
In order to be well equipped for the assignment on Islamic Jihad and political dominance, the Izala Aid Group held a fundraising event where three Northern Governors Alh. SaminuTuraki (Jigawa), the late Engr. Abdulkadir Kure (Niger) and Sani Yarima Bakura (Zamfara), agreed to assist the group which would serve as “foot soldiers for Islam”. The Governors on behalf of their Northern Muslim colleagues pledged a donation of 100,000,000 (one hundred million Naira) each to procure working equipment for the foot soldiers of Islam. A further donation of N25,000,000.00 (twenty-five million Naira ) was promised to Fitiyau Islam while 10,000,000.00 (ten million Naira) was raised on the spot. This was the genesis of Boko Haram, a religiously-motivated political militia group, to promote Islamic dominance in politics and government.
It is crucial to note that, THE WEEKLY TREASURE on SEPTEMBER 3, 2001, reported the above incident, but nobody, neither the Government nor Security agencies, came out to challenge the Governors. Herein attached are the records of the Weekly Treasure.
It will be recalled that subsequent to the meeting and donation of the above-mentioned governors as at that time, Kaduna, Plateau, Kano, and the Jigawa States Muslim youths started attacking churches and killing Christians, especially where elections did not favour the Muslims. Their youths attacked churches and Christians’ homes. They never went to INEC offices or political party offices to burn them down. Not even one person was arrested. This period coincided with the declaration of Sharia in the twelve core Northern states which was championed and promoted by Sanni Yerima, former Governor of Zamfara state.
Furthermore, there is a medical doctor and a consultant in the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Dr. Ibrahim Kida, who is fully a member of Boko Haram. In the year 2009, when Boko Haram attacked security men and churches in Maiduguri, a team of soldiers went to search for this medical doctor, but before they could reach him, the hospital authority had flown him to Egypt where he stayed for some months before he came back. It is sad to note that, this man is still working with the hospital. The most pathetic reality is that the Department of State Security (DSS) is fully aware of his activities. Apart from this doctor, there is another Civil Servant name Ibrahim Intu who works with the Chad River Basin Development Authority and who is as well the financial secretary of the Boko Haram sect. He is still working there and it is certain there are several such living and fraternizing with innocent people.
